AFTER ARSON THAT HORRIFIED NATION Dad who burnt to death six of his kids claims he’s got new evidence to clear his name

impossible for me to do anything like that. To be honest if we do get justice it will never mend my broken heart.

“I miss them all so much, more than words can describe, it’s like my heart has been ripped from inside.

“I’ve stated from day one I’m 100% innocent. With hand on heart, I had nothing to do with what happened.”

Philpott, described as controlling and manipulative, has convinced Mikey.

In one letter Philpott expresses sympathy for Mikey but selfishly adds: “What we’ve been through, nobody could ever contemplate the pain and horror.” Then he talks of what “we are hoping to prove with this evidence”. “Of course there’s a society who believe everything that the papers say or what the police say, that is life. It’s also a fact.” Mikey, who lives with his 18-year-old girlfriend in Lincolnshire, says his dad claims to be a victim of his benefits lifestyle and multiple relationships. He says: “Dad thinks he’s being punished because of the way he lived. He believes that people were willing to think anything of him because he lived on benefits and had two women living with him.” Philpott also moans that he has been denied counselling, saying: “There’s nothing can repair a smashed heart, that’s probably as I’ve never had any counselling and I don’t know how to grieve. I’ve asked and asked but nothing... “I’m in a very dark place, knowing you are not guilty and that the person or persons are still out there. God knows how they can sleep.”

Mikey has not yet visited his dad because “it would be too emotional”.

He has suffered horrendous abuse on social media and endured remarks that the whole family deserved their fate.

He was distraught after flowers and teddies on the children’s graves were replaced by voodoo dolls.

But while his son struggles with the anguish, Philpott moans about life in jail.

He describes weekly prison wages of £14.70 as “a joke” and boasts of being the best snooker player in his wing.

In phone calls, Mikey says Philpott has told of what his children could have been.

“Duwayne loved playing the violin and we reckon he’d be a musician,” says Mikey. “John wanted to join the Army, Jesse loved wrestling and may have gone into sport. Jack loved computer games so he’d have gone down the tech route.” The Philpott Fire: Five Years On is on Channel 5 tomorrow at 9pm.
