He was paid handsomely for his work with her when she was alive

-

Peter Settelen, 65, recorded intimate footage of the princess talking about her life – including her disastrous marriage to Prince Charles – while coaching her for TV appearances, at Kensington Palace from 1992 to 1993. Friends and family of the late mother of princes Wills and Harry branded him the man who betrayed Diana after he sold the tapes for a small fortune. Living in an upmarket areaa of South West London, he is often seenen driving around in a Ford Mondeoeo estate and going swimming at hiss local outdoor pool. But, despite his modest taste in cars, we can today reveal Settelen built up a £1.4million fortune with his wife Sarah afterr selling the tapes. He bought the large detached ed lodge where he now lives for £713,0003,000 in cash in August, 2014, after separating parating from Sarah, who lives in a £690,0000 000 h house nearby, also bought without a mortgage.

Estranged

Settelen is also estranged from his sister Jacqueline, who quit as co-owner of his production company in February 2004.

The Diana tapes were first shown by American TV network NBC a month after that, licensed for substantial sum, believed to be at least £500,000. It is not known how much Settelen has received for the latest deal with Channel 4.

A source said: “Peter is a quiet man who doesn’t flaunt his wealth, but there’s no doubt he has done well for himself.

“As well as selling the tapes, he published a book which he dedicated to the princess, admitting it came out of their work together after they first met in September 1992.

“He was paid handsomely for his work with her when she was alive and has made a fortune from his relationship with her since her death. “It’s an uncomfortable thought.” Despite considerable criticism, Channel 4 is set to broadcast Diana: In Her Own
