Get fit, you’ll be happy as Larry

- By Vikki White

ACTOR Larry Lamb is just two months from his 70th birthday –yet he is busier, and fitter, than ever.

On his stint last year on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here, he stuck to a rigid daily fitness regime – and pulled off ten squats with Emmerdale actor Adam Thomas, 28, on his back.

Larry became a household name at 60, landing the role of Archie Mitchell on EastEnders.

Before that he was Gavin’s dad Michael in hit sitcom Gavin and Stacey. And he shows no signs of slowing down, with a recent film role in The Hatton Garden Job.

But despite being fit, Larry’s ability to exercise has not always been without issues.

He recalls: “I started to notice problems with my knees in my early 60s and, like most, I ignored it. However my knees were becoming increasinglysingly painful and stiff.

“Just like you’d service a car if it was crunching and grinding, I knew I needed to do something about my joints so I turned to natural supplements.”nts.”

Larry tried dailyy doses of cod liver oil, to no avail. l. So he looked for supplements ts that had scientific evidence e that showed a regenerative effect ect on knees.

He came acrosss one based on a unique rose-hip blend with high levels of galactolipids olipids called GOPO Joint Health. lth.

Larry says: “WhenWhen I started taking GOPO I noticed an improvement in thehe discomfort in my knees withinn 2 months.

“I’ve now been n taking it for two years and havee absolutely no knee pain. I also noticed right from the beginning my general health and energy were greatly improved.”

He admits he was worried his joint pain might start again in the Australian jungle last autumn.

Larry says: “You never know what effect humidity, lack of food and rough sleeping can have on your body – but it didn’t affect me at all.

“Before taking supplements I was unable to run, my knees would always give me gyp. And crouching down and getting up would kill. I definitely wouldn’t have been able to squat with someone on my back.

“I’m certainly much more active now than I ever have been. I try to work out every day and I’m looking forward to running more. My knees don’t give me any gyp now. No creaks, cracks or pain.”

Here the actor shares his top tips for keeping joints in shape and staying fit and active. GET UP AND GO I’m about to turn 70 but I certainly don’t feel it – which I put at least partly down to keeping physically very fit. I took up running about eight years ago and I absolutely love it.

I find exercising regularly helps keep me focused and motivated in my work, as well as keeping me in shape. It really helped me in the jungle too, as I’m used to keeping active and busy – I’m definitely not someone to sit around doing nothing, getting bored. THE RIGHT SUPPLEMENT Up until a couple of years ago I had really bad hip and knee pain, but after trying loads of different things I started taking GOPO Joint Health.

I’d heard a glowing report from ex- Strictly judge Arlene Phillips. It’s been brilliant.

I’m also embarking soon on a cycle tour round Britain with my son George and I can’t wait. Never did I think at my age I would be cycling round Britain. GET YOUR FIVE A DAY I’m not one for fad diets, I just make sure I go for everything in moderation – plus lots of fruit and veg.

Eating healthily is so important at every age. Personally I try to enjoy meals. I just ma make sure I have a good balanc balance in what I’m eating and ke keeping up the exercise. BE PROACTIVE Nothing good ev ever comes from burying youry head in the sand – and the same certainly goes for your he health. If you’r you’re having prob problems, get it lookedlo into an and get it so sorted at the do doctors.
