Snap of tragic Julian emerges as dad flies in

- From Patrick Hill and Emily Retter in Barcelona

LITTLE Julian Cadman poses happily with his mum in a Chelsea shirt before they were both caught up in the Ramblas atrocity.

The heartbreaking picture emerged yesterday as the tragic seven-year-old’s devastated dad Andrew arrived in Barcelona.

Pharmacist Fouad Bakkali – who shielded 50 people in his shop – told how wounded Jumarie was brought in for safety by police and begged for news of her boy.

As Mr Bakkali tried to help the injured mum, with leg, back and head wounds, she pleaded: “Where is my son?” He added: “She was asking all the time about her boy.”

Julian, who was born in Kent before moving to Sydney three years ago, had travelled to the Catalan city with mother Jumarie, known as Jom, while Andrew stayed behind to work.

The lad was still officially described as “missing” last night.

Speculation by Spanish media suggested the boy had been found in hospital and was still alive but police later dismissed the reports.

Jumarie was recovering after an operation last night at Barcelona’s Vall d’Hebron hospital with Andrew by her side.

Her condition improved after the surgery and was described as “less serious” than it had been. Andrew landed at Barcelona’s El Prat Airport just after 5.45pm, where he was met by two Australian consular officials and taken to hospital to see his wife.

A hospital spokesman said: “Relatives are here and they are in contact with Mr Cadman by phone. It’s a tough time for them now and they are very upset. Mrs Cadman is in post-surgery. Mr Cadman will stay with her tonight.”
