- By Halina Watts SHOWBIZ EDITOR and Phil Cardy

MICHAEL Le Vell’s pals fear the troubled star is battling booze again.

The Coronation Street actor, who plays Kevin Webster, is believed to have been drinking when he was arrested on suspicion of assault on Thursday night at the home he shares with girlfriend Louise Gibbons.

A source says Le Vell, 53, who previously admitted to being an alcoholic, tumbled down the stairs at the £350,000 property after an argument.

He was taken to A&E for treatment before being held overnight at a Manchester police station.

Now friends fear his relationship with Louise could be on the rocks after a series of rows.

A source revealed: “Everyone is really worried about Michael.

“Things have hit an all-time low with Louise. She was there when Michael fell down the stairs.

“He slipped after rowing with another person in the house.

“Louise was screaming and trying to help him when he fell. She was so worried.

Split

“But things have been tense between them for a while. Friends think it is just a matter of time before they split.”

It is understood that hours before the arrest Le Vell, who was recently declared bankrupt, was at a recording of TV show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?.

He met Louise, 42, four years ago and she has been his rock as he continues to battle his demons.

She was seen wearing an engagement ring in December.

Greater Manchester police said they were called at around 10.50pm on Thursday to the home in Timperley, in Trafford, to reports of an assault. They have classed it as a domestic incident.

A spokesman added: “Officers attended and arrested a 53-yearold man, he was taken to hospital, then into police custody for questioning. The man has since been released with no further action.”

There was no response at the detached home yesterday.

Le Vell – who has been mechanic Kevin in Corrie since 1983 – was reportedly offered £250,000 a year in 2017 to stay in the ITV soap. But in March it emerged he had been declared bankrupt, with a “six-figure” bill outstanding.

He stood trial in 2013 accused of sexually abusing a girl but he was cleared on all charges.

In court he admitted being an alcoholic and cheating on his wife Janette Beverley. They split in 2011.
