Jonas warns Klopp off Terriers boss Wagner

- By Jason Mellor

JONAS LOSSL wants Jurgen Klopp to forget any plans to rekindle his old pals act with David Wagner.

Wagner stands on the verge of masterminding Huddersfield’s great escape as they edge towards Premier League safety despite being written-off as relegation certainties at the start of the season.

Town are confident of beating the drop despite a daunting final week run-in, with today’s trip to Manchester City followed by a visit to Chelsea and a final day date with an Arsenal side bringing down the curtain on 22 years under Arsene Wenger.

Wagner has worked miracles since taking charge at the John Smith’s Stadium in 2015 after turning down the chance to work under his close friend and former Mainz team-mate Klopp at Liverpool.

The Reds boss is in the market for a new number two as he prepares to lose his trusted assistant Zeljko Buvac, the Bosnian who is on the shortlist to become new Eintracht Frankfurt head coach and has also been linked with replacing Wenger at the Emirates Stadium.

Klopp could be again about to try and lure Wagner – best man at his wedding – to the Champions League finalists, but Lossl has told the German not to bother as the Town boss continues to build something special in West Yorkshire.

Town’s Danish international keeper insisted: “The gaffer and Jurgen Klopp are obviously good friends and I don’t know what his plans are but from our point of view as players we want David to stay.

“Managers can leave and anything can happen, but he’s the best coach I’ve played under and I think his heart is here at this club.

“I love how honest and grounded he is, and the way he takes the pressure off us players, so of course we’d love him to stay.”
