While Conte and the Chelsea players screamed for a red, referee Michael Oliver applied the rules and got the yellow card spot on.
Going down to 10 men would have ended the contest, but Oliver’s decision meant United could at least try to salvage the game – despite a toothless first half. After the break, United at least restored some pride by pressing for an equaliser. Alexis Sanchez had a goal ruled out for offside and a shot from Marcus Rashford was saved by Thibaut Courtois.
Misery
But that was about it and as if defeat was not painful enough, more misery lies just around the corner for United too.
After seeing City crowned League winners, a Liverpool victory in the Champions League final in Kiev on Saturday will be the ultimate nightmare scenario for all at Old Trafford.
