Germans may appear pragmatic about most things but they do get strangely misty-eyed about cars. Their key brands have diversified their factories into temples to vroom. The Boeing factory 25 miles north of Seattle on the west coast of the United States is home to the 747, 767, 777 and 787 Dreamliner production lines. Meanwhile – and for the sake of editorial balance – Boeing’s rivals Airbus in Toulouse focus their tours on the massive double-decker A380. There is also an interactive area with flight simulators, which is also where you can walk in and out of fuselages, including Concorde. Next comes the over-head viewing platform, from where you can see the various stages of creation. Finally you get to walk around a propeller-based military transport aircraft.
