Police quiz husband over paradise killing Brit wife is found stabbed

- By Dan Warburton by Gerard Couzens

THE children of a stabbed British woman will fly to St Lucia this week as murder cops quiz her husband. Retired estate agent Anna Mitchell, 68, was found dead on her driveway with a stab wound and head injuries. CUFFED Charlton footballers are led into court in Ibiza by cops, after a week that has shocked fans.

Reeco Hackett-fairchild, 20, teammate Karlan Ahearne-grant, 20, and a pal are being probed over an alleged sex attack of a teenage British tourist. But a judge yesterday bailed the trio, saying they gave a “credible and coherent” defence.

At the court in Ibiza Town, Judge Carmen Zamora said she had “reasonable doubts” a sex attack had taken place on Tuesday.

She added the 19-year-old alleged victim’s statement had “credibility” but there was a lack of any injuries.

Striker Ahearne-grant reportedly filmed the incident on his phone but is said to have deleted it.

A Spanish paper claimed the phone was being sent to experts in Madrid to try to recover the video. It could play a key role in the case.

Partying

Ahearne-grant is being investigated on suspicion of a privacy offence, not a sex crime.

Hackett-fairchild, from Redbridge, and his pal, fellow Londoner Olusola Odejayi, 26, were quizzed over the alleged sex attack.

The men had been partying at San Antonio’s flash Ocean Beach Club.

The teenager’s parents took her to the police to make a complaint.

As part of bail conditions, Hackettfairchild and Odejayi must stay in Ibiza and sign on at a local court twice a month. It is thought lawyers will try to appeal to get the men home. Ahearne-grant, from Greenwich, was allowed to return to Britain. He joined the League One side when he was 17.

Hackett-fairchild made his professional debut with Charlton last August, and scored two goals in 12 appearances.

A Charlton Athletic spokesman said: “The club have been made aware and are looking into this.” Her car window had been smashed. Police arrested James Mitchell, 77, a former music promoter said to be suffering from dementia.

Medics were consulted to establish whether he could be questioned. Mrs Mitchell emigrated 20 years ago and her two grown-up children will head to the Caribbean to identify her.

A source said: “The police know the cause of death but they can only carry out a proper post-mortem once she has been formally identified.” The Royal St Lucia Police said: “We received a report about an ugly incident on the Cap Estate and went to investigate. We found a woman fatally stabbed. A man is in custody.”

Rosalie Johnny, a friend of the couple, told local media: “They seemed to be happy together.”
