At their heaviest, Kirsty weighed 16st 4lb and Lindsey weighed 17st 9lb.
Then Kirsty had a heart attack when she was 25 weeks pregnant with son Evan, now four, in 2013. She said: “Thankfully I was all right and Evan was born healthy. But doctors discovered the heart attack was caused by a genetic blood clotting condition Lindsey and I shared.
“They said my weight was a contributing factor. So we had to do something about it.” Lindsey, a paralegal who also lives in Wrexham, found a fitness website with short daily workouts, and the twins joined it together. They also joined a slimming group and the weight started to fall off.
Instead of skipping breakfast, then filling up on sausage rolls and sandwiches for lunch followed by burgers and pizzas for dinner, they now start with oats, have healthy home-made soup and salad for lunch and lean chicken and vegetables for dinner.
Kirsty, who runs her own party cake business, said: “We knew that if one of us started to lose weight the other would follow.
“We’ve always been incredibly close. When we were born I had to be incubated because I was so tiny and mum said Lindsey just cried and cried until the doctors put her in the incubator next to me too.
“Even when we went to study at different universities we’d speak on the phone every day. We started to lose weight and we both started to feel a lot better.”
After 15 months’ healthy eating and exercise, Lindsey weighs a slim 10st 13lb and is a size 10, while Kirsty is a size eight at 9st.
Kirsty said: “We couldn’t have done it alone. Our family is very proud of us – but mostly we are proud of each other.”
