Blues duo face Sarri shake up
following their spectacular capture of Ronaldo. They are looking to recoup a big chunk of the £80million they paid for the Spaniard two years ago.
Higuain’s arrival at Stamford Bridge will spell trouble for Giroud, who could win the World Cup with France today but find himself looking for a new club.
After moving to Chelsea in a shock January switch from Arsenal, Giroud was seen as a solid alternative to the disappointing Morata – but Sarri’s move for Higuain puts the Frenchman further down the pecking order.
Giroud has 12 months left on his current deal and rival clubs are aware of his availability.
Morata, signed for £58m last summer from Real Madrid, wants out of Chelsea after just a year having failed to adapt to English football.
A swap deal involving Morata would cut back on the fee for Higuain, who is valued at around £53m by the Italian champions.
Morata has also attracted interest from AC Milan.
Sarri, who yesterday beat Manchester City to the £57m signing of Jorginho from Napoli, has promised to entertain the Chelsea fans following his confirmation as Conte’s successor.
The former Napoli coach will take his first training session with his Chelsea squad tomorrow, and he said: “I hope we can provide some entertaining football for our fans, and that we will be competing for trophies at the end of the season, which is what this club deserves.”
