Come hell or high water, nationalise
THE majority of people in this country want to see the water industry nationalised. It’s not difficult to see why. Fat-cat pay deals for a rip-off service that has cost the taxpayer billions over the years.
Last year, a study revealed that water companies had made almost £20billion in profit.
And experts believe customers are paying £2.3bn more every year than if water companies were publicly owned.
This area is a timebomb destined to go the same way as the rail shambles.
And that becomes clearer than ever when the country is in the grip of a heatwave.
Grasping
No one can blame these firms for the weather. But we can blame them for their greedy, grasping, behaviour.
The current set-up is nothing more than a racket.
If, as customers, we have complaints about these firms, there is nothing we can do.
There is no opt-out, short of digging a well.
Michael Gove has warned the companies that their greed needs to be addressed.
Shadow Chancellor John Mcdonnell hopes one of the first things a new Labour government would do would be to give control of the industry back to the public.
Incidentally, when Mr Mcdonnell unveiled that plan, a study appeared saying it would be too expensive to implement.
Who paid for the study? The water companies.
Tells you all you need to know, doesn’t it.
