Allitt victim still lives in fear of killer nurse

- By Dan Warburton

A MAN whose daughter was targeted by Beverley Allitt has told of their ongoing torment as the killer nurse battles suspected sepsis in hospital.

Allitt – dubbed the Angel of Death – carried out attacks including insulin overdoses on 13 babies in 1991, killing four.

She was last week rushed from her high-security hospital to Bassetlaw hospital in Worksop, Notts, in a serious condition.

Kayley Asher was 15 months old and suffered brain injuries in Allitt’s attack.

She also has mild learning dif- ficulties and the congenital disorder Kabuki Makeup Syndrome.

Now 28, she needs psychiatric medication for delusions that Allitt will strike again.

Dad Alan, 61, said: “When I was told Allittt was ill I could only think she may now know the pain suffered by her victims. “While we’ve fought to get the right care, Allitt will be given the best treatment and be pampered. She has been a burden on the taxpayer for years.

“All the while, Kayley has been terrified. She looks under the bed before she goes to sleep and is scared that Allitt will attack her again.” Allit, 49, was held indefinitely over the killings at Grantham and Kesteven Hospital, Lincs.

It is understood she was admitted to hospital last Sunday. Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust did not comment.
