Saga? I’m loving every single thing

UNFORGOTTEN returned on Sunday night with a gripping episode that was, er, unforgettable. Starring actress-of-the-moment Nicola Walker and the brilliant Sanjeev Bhaskar as cop duo Cassie and Sunny, it started with a punch to the gut. As workmen were digging the central reservation of the M1, they discovered the remains of a teenage girl. It was Hayley Reid, a 16-year-old who went missing after a Millennium party. Bronagh Waugh, who you will recognise from The Fall, broke our hearts as Jessica, Hayley’s grief-stricken twin sister. Fans loved it, dubbing Cassie and Sunny telly’s most likeable detective duo. Clever and gritty with a great cast, bring on tonight’s instalment. EIGHT single ladies whisked off to a sun-drenched island to find love. Not an unfamiliar format. Ninia Benjamin, 50, ex-model Annabel Giles, 59, and journo Ingrid Tarrant, 63.

We will watch as they live together, bond and date. No cash prize or promise of a spin-off. They simply want to rediscover themselves and look for love. OK, possibly get some telly exposure too, but who cares? It was emotional and surprising.

Flirting

Maybe. But never judge anyone by the number of microfibre cleaning cloths they bring on holiday.

Even Annabel was determined to escape her box-set rut, despite packing slippers.

Meanwhile Nancy, glamour personified, tottered along the beach in towering heels.

And as everyone discussed ageing, she purred: “I don’t see any downside of getting older. I’ve never looked more beautiful.” Good on her.

Nancy was hilarious, telling matchmaker George she needed a man with a private plane, before sashaying off for a cocktail. Sian flirted with a tour guide, Melinda chased chickens and Lizzie did the Robot.

But the meditation scene will live longest in the memory.

The teacher whispered: “Imagine this energy as a snake, climbing up the body. Open, close your beautiful vaginas. Be conscious of it, shake it.” And so they did.

For pure entertainment, these over-50s can easily put those hot young things in the shade.
