IT HAS taken Luke Shaw three long seasons to get his career back on track.

Three unsufferab­ly long years since he suffered not just a double break to his right leg. He also faced the prospect of losing the limb altogether.

For all the money swishing about the game at the top level, that puts not only football – but life – into perspectiv­e. And then some. So when the defender was sent crashing onto the Wembley turf last night, it must have seemed like Groundhog Day.

He has had enough of the heartache, surely. The fact he is now even playing football must be seen as a blessing.
