DOUBLE TROUBLE Two mega-storms to hit UK

TROPICAL storms in the wake of a deadly hurricane are set to batter the UK with gale force winds and torrential rain.

A “danger to life” warning has been issued across parts of the UK amid fears roads and airports could be disrupted.

Storms Isaac and Helene are whipping up the Atlantic behind Hurricane Florence, which claimed five lives.

In the northern Philippines, 14 people were killed as a 115mph typhoon ripped through the main island of Luzon.

Road and bridges were closed and thousands were evacuated. Two rescuers died trying to help people trapped in a landslide.

Here the Met Office has issued severe weather warnings for wind across north-west and south-west England, Scotland and Wales from tomorrow night until Tuesday lunchtime. But the “tropical” nature will mean the mercury could rise up to 30C after the weekend. Met Office spokesman Grahame Madge said the level-one yellow alert may be upgraded depending on the storm’s path and severity.

He said: “The UK’S weather will come under the influence of exhurricane Helene although other systems in the Atlantic may modify this particular one.

“There is a warning out from Monday night, with Helene expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain mainly across western Britain through Tuesday morning.”

Among the dead in the States is a mum and her child killed when a tree hit their home in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Streets were littered with debris and hundreds of homes were flooded. More heavy rainfall is forecast even though Florence has been downgraded to a storm.

President Donald Trump yesterday declared the worst hit areas a disaster zone. Some towns have had 2ft of rain and nearly a million homes are without power.
