SO it’s farewell to Big Brother. The show that made household names out of Jade Goody, Brian Dowling and “Nasty” Nick Bateman has been axed after 18 years.

I only dipped in and out of the Celebrity version, and stopped watching the so-called civilian version after about the eighth series but I was still surprised to hear Channel 5 had pulled the plug on it. It’s incredible to think that the show’s original bad guy, Nasty Nick, pictured, went from being an unknown City worker to an overnight celebrity invited to red carpet film premieres to hang out with the likes of Brad Pitt and Guy Ritchie or that the late Jade Goody made millions from the fact she’d never heard of “East Angular” better known as East Anglia.

The sad thing about the show was that it taught a whole generation of young people that being a reality star was genuinely something to aspire to and that going on the show was a short cut to fame and fortune.

It isn’t and it wasn’t. I’m sure many ex-housemates whose lives were ruined by the show won’t shed any tears over its demise.

YOUNG people on the struggling to get ladder, got all excited housing prices when they read house cent in the could plunge 35 per no-deal Brexit. But event of a the small print they didn’t read be rates will probably – loan they probably so high won’t be able to get mortgages. I MISSED the first few episodes of the brilliant BBC1 drama Bodyguard so I planned to binge-watch recordings to catch up – but I was too late.

Nowadays the convention around spoilers, where you warn someone you are going to give away a crucial part of the plot, doesn’t seem to exist. And so, SPOILER ALERT, I found out that Keeley Hawes’ character had been killed, before seeing the episode. Seriously annoying. The thing is, you might manage to avoid the plot reveals on social media but television and radio presenters blurt them out without warning. Either that or they will be front page news. There’s no escape, so the only thing to do is try to watch with everyone else while giving everything away on Twitter. Luckily I’m all caught up now and I can’t wait to see how this thrilling series will end.
