SAD PLEA TO KILLERS

- By Stephen Hayward

A CABBIE’S devastated family have written an open letter to his “cowardly and barbaric” killers on the second anniversary of his death.

It came as police renewed a £20,000 reward for info leading to the conviction of Carl O’brien’s attackers.

The dad of two, 55, was attacked after answering the front door of his block of flats in Wallington, South London. He died from head injuries 20 days later.

Last week, members of Carl’s family were joined by murder squad detectives as they handed out copies of the letter to commuters and shoppers in the community.

In the moving message, Carl’s daughter Laura says: “You left him for dead. You ran away like the cowards you are and didn’t call for help.

“If your aim was to cause heartbreak, devastation and misery to people who you do not know, then you achieved this aim. You have robbed my dad of his life and caused him to have a painful death he did not deserve.

“He was the best dad, gentle, kind and a good role model. He still is loved and missed by so many.

“We can’t bring my dad back because of your actions but we can continue to fight for justice, and we will.”

A 26-year-old man was found not guilty of Carl’s murder after a trial at Isleworth crown court in October last year. Scotland Yard says the killing remains unsolved and the probe continues.
