Orange is the new snack

-

ROWAN trees are a great haven for wildlife and the lush berries help birds survive winter when food is scarce.

Also known as mountain ash, rowan marks the seasons with spring flowers followed by bundles of orange-red fruit and glorious autumn colour.

It has a neat conical habit, growing to six by four metres in 20 years, making it the perfect choice for a small garden. Sorbus trees are most at home in acid soil but will do well in chalky soils too.
