TNT’ FURY IS DYNAMITE

- By David Anderson by Matt Bozeat

TOMMY FURY claims he can become undisputed champion after winning on his professional debut to take his first step in trying to emulate big brother Tyson.

Fury impressed against Latvian Jevgenijs Andrejevs as he comfortably took all four rounds of this lightheavyweight contest to win 40-36. And the youngest of the fighting Furys is adamant he can go all the way.

“This is what I was born to do,” said Fury, who is trained by Ricky Hatton.

“Fighting is in my family and in my blood and I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t think I could become world undisputed champion.”

Although Fury did not get the stoppage against an opponent who was now lost 103 of his 116 fights, he got valuable ring time. “I felt him wince a couple of times,” said Fury. “He was good at buying himself time and it was all good experience.”

Fury, 19, who unlike Tyson has a finely-honed physique, is nicknamed TNT and he exploded a number of big rights on Andrejevs.

He was twice warned by CHRIS EUBANK SENIOR has made a mess of his son’s career.

That’s the astonishing view of veteran promoter Barry Hearn, who made Chris Sr a superstar.

Eubank is set to meet James Degale at London’s O2 Arena in a grudge fight on February 23 – a match that doesn’t impress Barry Hearn, who promoted Eubank Sr during a career that featured a British record 24 world-title fights.

Eubank Snr promised that his son would “change the game” and put the “sex appeal” back into boxing.

But, in his 29-fight career, the highlight so far has been winning the lightly regarded IBO super-middleweight title.

And when he challenged fight George Groves in February, Eubank was easily beaten.

Hearn, who is also the head of the darts organisation, the PDC, said: “He’s very good and should be a superstar, but he’s not been managed well referee Howard Foster for low blows in between hurting the Eastern European with a succession of body shots and uppercuts. Fury sent him staggering across the ring in the fourth, but his wily opponent hung.

Billy Joe Saunders stopped Charles Adamu in four rounds in his first bout since failing a drugs test and being stripped of his WBO middleweight title. by his father. His father was great and the son has tremendous ability, but perhaps needs a little more control and direction.

“Eubank was led and directed in a way that made him think the decisions were his. But his son is living the worst part of his father’s alter ego. He can fight, but he can’t even punch properly.

“He was exposed by George Groves and Billy Joe Saunders – that’s what happens when you teach yourself. He’s no better than he was after 10 fights – he should have made more progress.

Nowhere

“He has all the ingredients, but where is he? What does fighting De Gale mean? There are better fights for him. Now would be a good time to fight Gennady Golovkin. It was on the cards with us, but we had loads of discussions that went nowhere.”

Niether Eubank was available last night to answer Hearn’s accusations.

The fight between Degale and Eubank has been simmering since a sparring session in 2012.

Degale was so incensed by Eubank’s attitude, he is alleged to have head-butted him. Eubank further enraged the 2008 Olympic champion by stating on social media he had “schooled” him.

Now he is looking for a way back after losing to Groves.
