TOP TEEMU CANARIES Pukki strikes late for leaders

-

Teemu was there with two good chances. They tried to break our rhythm and to annoy us. We played our football and made it our game.

“To be here with such a young side and be so competitive and to win this game is very special.”

Blackburn’s days of glory among the elite are a memory, but under Tony Mowbray they are still hoping for a play-off spot.

He said: “I thought we played well and competed against a team at the top of the table. It’s a frustrating day because we’re not used to getting beaten at home.”

Norwich could have got off to a flier when in the 13th minute Todd Cantwell sent Pukki into the box for a one-on-one with David Raya, but he could only find the side netting to add to Farke ’s frustration – the Norwich boss believing his side were subjected to roughhouse tactics.

The template had been set with a late challenge on Emiliano Buendia, which forced the midfielder to limp off. Richie Smallwood was lucky to avoid punishment but he did go in the book, though, with Corry Evans plus Norwich’s Hernandez and Moritz Leitner.

Amid the skulduggery Raya saved a 25- yarder from Marco Stiepermann while Pukki dragged a shot past the

post.

Blackburn had been restricted to an effort from Danny Graham which was def lected wide and a Bradley Dack header which hit a yellow wall.

Thankfully the second half improved. Pukki sliced across the face of goal while a header from Christoph Zimmermann produced a fine reflex save from Raya.

At the other end Dack broke into the box – only to see his shot smothered by Tim Krul – while Derrick Williams headed just over from a corner.
