YOUNG STAR GIVES LOVELL ‘BEST RESULT OF CAREER’

- By TOM HOPKINSON at the Priestfield Stadium

ELLIOTT LIST fired the goal that dumped Premier League Cardiff out of the Cup and then roared: Now bring on Manchester City.

The 21- year- old Gills star wrapped his right boot around a loose ball just inside the box nine minutes from the end of normal time.

And despite referee Tim Robinson playing seven minutes of stoppage-time, the League One strugglers held on.

List said: “I want Manchester City now. Why? Because they’re the best team in the Premier League.”

Boss Steve Lovell, who hails from Swansea, added: “Elliott took his goal really well.

“He’s a great young player, a great prospect. I’m really pleased for him because he kept going throughout the game. I haven’t played against a Premier League team before, so this has to be the best result of my career.

Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock, who made seven changes from the side which l ost to Tottenham on New Year’s Day, had no complaints with the result. But he was unhappy with the medical attention his players got after Danny Ward had to wait for a stretcher.

He said: “If you’re medical people and you’re waiting for a stretcher, if he’d had a heart attack he’d be dead now.

“So they’ve got a lot to learn. Whatever division you’re in, you’re concerned about your players if they don’t get the right treatment and we were waiting for a stretcher for quite a long time.

“Kadeem Harris is having an X- ray on a shoulder and Danny is going for a scan on a cheekbone, the l ad has head-butted him as he has gone to flick it on and it’s one of those things.”

As for the performance, Warnock added: “I know we made a lot of changes but I thought we played well and I’ve no complaints about the attitude.”

Cardiff dominated the first half but some solid work from Gills keeper Tomas Holy and his defenders kept out efforts from Loic Damour, Bobby Reid and Joe Ralls. Gills forward Tom Eaves missed two good headed chances at the end of the first half and Josh Parker missed a glorious chance after the break.

Josh Murphy’s effort hit a post for Cardiff, and Nathaniel Mendez-laing struck the bar before Gillingham thought they could snatch something.

They did when List netted late on and were unlucky not to make it two when Callum Reilly’s effort deflected on to the bar.
