Alexis tip to be hit when he’s fully fit

-

ALEXIS SANCHEZ has been challenged to overcome the pressure of playing for Manchester United.

Interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits Sanchez – United’s highest earner on a staggering package of over £400,000 a week – hasn’t lived up to his billing since his arrival from Arsenal a year ago. The 30-yearold Chile striker has scored just once in 14 games this season.

But Solskjaer said: “I don’t think players think about ‘what I cost’ or ‘what I earn’ when they go out on to the pitch.

“But of course, he’s got high standards for himself.

“You demand a lot from yourself and when it doesn’t work – as it clearly hasn’t – and he’s had some injuries, then it’s difficult to suddenly put that confidence on.

“It’s a fresh start for him, a new lease of life, maybe. Hopefully we can see the best of him because he is a top, top player.

“There will be demands and expectation. That’s how it is at Manchester United. So when you sign big players, you expect them to perform straight away. That’s just something you’ve got to deal with. That’s the pressure that comes with the job here.

“It will still take time before we can fairly say with Alexis, ‘Yeah, you’re fit, you’re 100 per cent fit, you’ve got many games on the run and now we expect to see the best level that you can perform’.”
