Kane tells Poch: Build a dynasty

- By Tom Hopkinson

HARRY KANE has told Mauricio Pochettino to snub Manchester United and build a dynasty at Tottenham.

Pochettino has transformed Spurs into title contenders since joining the club in 2014 – and United chiefs are ready to break the bank to bring him to Old Trafford in the summer.

But England captain Kane believes Pochettino is on the brink of big things in north London.

He said: “Kane added, ‘We are fully behind the manager. We love the way he works. We’ve built a great team and a great unit over the last few years.

“It’s down to us to continue that and take another step forward.

“We are still in all the competitions. It’s about turning that into a trophy.

“He has a great personality, he’s a great manager, but he’s a great guy off the pitch as well.

“He treats you like a friend, but he earns that respect from you.

“He’s great to talk to, but, most importantly, he is a great coach and we all want to play for him.”

And Spurs’ upturn has coincided with a dramatic fall from grace for Manchester United since Sir Alex Ferguson left Old Trafford in 2013.

And, ahead of today’s clash at Wembley, Pochettino’s men sit 10 points above their visitors.

Spurs were comfortable 3-0 winners when the two sides met earlier this season, but the Red Devils are a different proposition since Ole

Gunnar Solskjaer replaced

Jose Mourinho.

Spurs have lost just one of their last eight games in all competitions and have their tails up after beating Chelsea

1-0 in the first leg of their

Carabao Cup semi-final on

Tuesday. Kane (right) scored the goal in midweek and says Spurs are no longer the whipping boys they once were for the big clubs. He said: “Over the last few years, we have turned that around. We were always the ones going into these games as the underdog and now some of these games we are going into as favourites, especially at home.

“United will come and try to play with a lot of energy because they haven’t played in midweek and we have to make sure we match that.

“When we match their intensity, keep the ball and make it hard for them, that’s when we can do damage.

“United have an amazing history and have won so many titles, a lot more than Tottenham.

Mature

“What we have done as a team with Mauricio and the staff is to change the perception of Spurs over the last three or four years.

“We are at the stage now where we have a mature team, we are not young any more. It’s important we keep ourselves at this high level, at the top. “The teams around us know it’s difficult to play us. We have to use that to our advantage.

“When we are on good form, we can dominate any team in Europe. We’ve done it in the Champions League and we’ve done it against the big teams in games.

“But it’s about consistency. United are coming off some great results, they are going to be confident and have a lot of energy. “We have to bring that same energy.

“That’s when we’re at our best, when we’re pressing and everyone is on the front foot.”
