Keep your eye on ’em, Bielsa! BATTLING BLADES ON LEEDS’ TAIL

- By NATHAN HEMMINGHAM at Bramall Lane

CHRIS WILDER saw Sheffield United keep the heat on tabletopping Leeds – but warned his Blades to keep their cool.

United made it four league wins in a row and moved four points behind Leeds, courtesy of David Mcgoldrick’s 10th goal of the season shortly before the break.

And Wilder says that although he wants everyone to enjoy the fact his hometown club are in the automatic places, he is adamant no one will be talking promotion.

“It’s human nature to put the TV on when you walk in the dressing room and have a look at the table,” he said. “We would rather be second top than second bottom, and understandably it was a good reaction from the lads when they saw the results.

“The key for me now is to keep them grounded.

“We’ve taken another forward step and we must keep pushing forward. This was another great result for us.

“It’s not always going to be chance after chance in this league.

“Sometimes you have to have that bit of quality to win tight games and we had that with a superb cross from Ollie Norwood and David’s finish.

“It was a tough game, no result is given to you and we have had to overcome stubborn and tough opposition but it’s the right result.”

In a game of few chances, United sealed the victory with the game’s only goal, on 37 minutes. Enda Stevens did well, driving forward before laying the ball back for Norwood to deliver a cross for Mcgoldrick to head home.

The Blades put the visitors under heavy pressure in the second half but couldn’t turn their possession into goals.

Stevens was inches away from wrapping the game up five minutes from time and Luke Freeman was a whisker away from snatching a leveller with a late drive that went just the wrong side of the post.

Rangers boss Steve Mcclaren was disappointed to see their sixmatch unbeaten run end.

He said: “It was a very good game with two teams going toe-to-toe and really slogging it out.

“There wasn’t a great deal in the game and it was always going to be 1-0. Their goal was their only shot on target and we are disappointed not to have scored. It was a huge disappointment to lose that game because I didn’t think we deserved to.”
