Proof Harry and Meg are up to it

-

AT last Harry and Meghan have smartened up their act.

On their visit to South Africa and meeting the ageing Archbishop Desmond Tutu, they finally showed little Archie to the world.

What a gorgeous child he is and how like Prince Harry as a baby!

It is lovely to see Harry and Meghan beaming with such pride and happiness.

For the first time in months, the Sussexes seemed relaxed and comfortable in their own skins.

Harry strolled along with his arm around his wife, beaming from ear to ear, and seemed happy that Archie stole the show.

There was no sign of the tension that both appear to display when out and about on royal duties on home ground.

Shame they couldn’t do the proud mum and dad thing here at home in the UK. It’s like they don’t trust us very much – and it certainly felt like a snub.

I’ve been very critical of their attitude over the past few months. What annoyed me was the fact that they sought to make such a big deal of keeping secret the details of

Archie’s

CHRISTMAS is just around the corner. My local grocer has got the tinsel out already and Hamleys has predicted its best-selling toys.

And guess what? Most are hi-tech and involve apps.

But the No1 showstopper is reassuringly fluffy and cuddly.

Scruff-a-luv arrives as a “sad, matted ball of fur” for you to rescue. Bathe it, dry it, brush it, love it birth and christening. But watching footage of their arrival in Cape Town and their emotional meeting with Tutu and his daughter has melted my heart and reminded me of what it’s like to be a young, new parent under the spotlight.

Firstly, you are indeed overprotective. And if you are famous, you are the target of horrid threats. I remember being quite terrified of just taking my baby out for a stroll in the park, thinking every passer-by was a potential kidnapper.

So just imagine how it must be for Harry and Meghan, no matter how many police protection officers are on duty around them.

It may well be that they only feel safe and carefree on foreign ground, with a closely monitored press corps and defined circle of trusted friends. I can understand that.

They have proved to themselves and us that they are up to it.

Meghan is said to have been hurt by criticism of her haughty attitude and jet-setting lifestyle.

It appears she’s learned. And I reckon she’ll be thrilled to see her baby son celebrated by the public.

What proud mum wouldn’t? – only then do you see what sort of pet it really is. I’ve already got one – for real. I’ve had little Ellie for two years. She’s my first, and is a rescue dog.

She too was a sad, matted ball of fur. And she needs regular bathing and brushing.

I rather like the idea of a toy that promotes the idea of pet rescue and the merits of TLC. It’s better than any video game or app.
