Yiad yanks it from the fire

- By GRAHAM THOMAS at the Liberty Stadium

ANDY YIADOM gave Swansea a taxing reminder of missed deadlines as he snatched a point for Reading.

The wing-back would have joined the Swans two years ago, when they were in the Premier League and he was at Barnsley, but the paperwork was never completed.

It was an error the Championship pacesetters were left cursing when Yiadom rifled home a sweet drive to deservedly earn the Royals a point in the 90th minute.

The Swans would have gone back to the top of the table if they had clung on to Borja Baston’s graceful headed opener in the third minute, but they failed to make their dominance pay.

It’s a careless habit that has left them without a win in their last three league games, although manager Steve Cooper felt Reading should have had Lucas Boye sent off just before half-time.

The Argentine striker had already been booked for scything down Connor Roberts, but escaped a red when he pulled back Matt Grimes. “They should have been down to 10 men and we are definitely on the end of some poor decisions,” Cooper said.

“We are obviously frustrated. When you concede late on it is always tough to take.”

Reading boss Jose Gomes saw the Boye incident differently, although he did substitute the player at the start of the second half.

“A few minutes before a Swansea player caught my player by his shirt and shorts and he didn’t show a yellow card, so the referee followed the same criteria,” said Gomes.

“Lucas Boye is a fighter, he is really physical but I thought it was better not to expose him to the chance he might get a yellow card, so I took him off.

“It’s a very important point. If we couldn’t win, at least we got a point and in the way we played was pleasing.”

Reading did not look like a team that had lost their three previous league games, even after Borja glanced Andre Ayew’s cross past Rafael Cabral for his sixth goal of the season.

George Puscas and Ovie Ejaria had missed chances to equalise for Reading, while Swansea missed chances of their own to seal victory through Ayew and George Byers.

But Cooper added: “We have another two games this week and we have to move on quickly.” SWANSEA READING 4 ........ Shots on Target .........5 5 ........
