My wife and I are innocent and victims of drug smugglers

Roger added: “I have sent a letter to the PM asking him to look into our case.

“My wife and I are completely innocent and have fallen victims to cruel gang drug smugglers.

“I’ve met and learnt from other i nmates some very interestin­g also nasty stories concerning drugs being taken into the UK.”

Drug cops acting on a tip-off from Britain’s National Crime Agency arrested the couple on board the Marco Polo cruise liner on December 4 last year.

Officers discovered nine kilos of cocaine hidden inside the lining of four suitcases.

Roger claimed he had been handed the cases on the sunshine island of St Lucia but had no idea they contained the Class A drugs.

The couple, who were jailed in Norway in 2010 for traffickin­g 240kg of cannabis resin, protested their innocence.

But prosecutor­s said the pair were drug mules who had been on four cruises to South America in two years as a front for their crimes.

The couple, who lived in a villa in the expat community of Guardamar on Spain’s Costa Blanca, were convicted of traffickin­g after a one-day trial in Lisbon. Now Roger, originally from Chatham, Kent, wants to be reunited with his wife in a mixed-sex jail on the Portuguese island of Madeira.

He said: “My wife is in another prison. We have been here for 10 months and so far have had only three visits each for only one hour.

“We are both going to obtain forms asking for a transfer to Madeira as it takes both male and female prisoners at least we would be able to see each other daily. We must wait to see if the
