SAM FEAR OF SPIDER

- By Rod Minchin

RUGBY legend Sam Warburton has admitted he turned down next month’s series of I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! due to his fear of spiders.

And the ex-wales and British Lions captain revealed that while playing for Wales he once switched hotel rooms because he had spotted one in the corner.

Warburton, 31, told an audience at the Cheltenham Literature Festival he had been approached by producers about taking part in the ITV show set in the Australian jungle – but despite being a huge fan knew he would not survive it.

He said: “I said to them that I physically can’t go on. I’d be great telly – I’m not being arrogant – because I come across as a normal guy.

“But there’s this pretty big rugby player who is terrified of spiders and would be screaming at stuff. And they were like, ‘That’s why you’d be so good’, and I was like, ‘Yeah for you, not for me’.

Warburton said the producers even offered him hypnotherapy and revealed to him that previous celebrities on the show had received such support.

The married dad- of- one retired aged 29 after winning 79 test caps for Wales.

He also told the festival he did not live a celebrity lifestyle and instead enjoyed walking his dog, seeing friends and family, and going out for a curry.
