Let us have our say

A vote on any Brexit deal is only way to go WE MUST GO GREEN FOR JOBS

-

TODAY, like most days, and like most MPS, I’ll be chatting to residents who elected me to Parliament and listening to concerns.

It used to be me asking the questions. “How are you doing?” or “What can I do to help?”

Now the tables have turned, and it’s me who is facing questions, such as “What on earth is happening in Parliament?” and “Will we ever sort this Brexit mess?”

How we answer that last question is now more important than ever. Our country has to be able to move on from Brexit.

Last week the Tories parroted the slogan “Get Brexit Done”. If only it was that simple.

In the next few days and weeks we will see whether the Prime Minister can deliver on his promise to sort out a new deal with the EU.

But regardless of whether there is a deal – or the Tories impose the disaster of no deal – this is only the

of the process – Brexit will not be “done”.

Whatever happens with Brexit, we face years of negotiations about our future relationship both with the EU and the rest of the world.

And that’s not to mention the jobs lost and cuts to public services as our economy takes a decade to recover from any changes.

That will not bring the country back together, it will simply cause further damaging division.

At a recent surgery I was visited by a constituent who had supported Brexit but was horrified at the idea of a IT has been inspiring to see so many people taking a stand on climate change and calling for the urgent action that is so desperately needed to address this crisis.

The evidence is overwhelmingly clear that we cannot continue to allow this Johnson-trump Brexit alliance – this was not the Brexit he voted for and he has the right to say so.

Because after so much time, people need to have the chance to say whether any Brexit proposed is actually what they voted for, or even whether they still want Brexit at all.

If the public are happy, and still want to leave the EU on the terms proposed, issue to remain far too low down on the priority list.

The UK has the opportunity to be a leader in a new green energy revolution.

That’s why I am pleased that the Treasury Select Committee – that I am then they should get the chance to vote to do so. Not a “neverendum” but a final confirmatory ballot on a real proposal for leaving the EU.

There are so many issues that we need to focus on – climate change, investment in our schools and NHS, our police, tackling crime and antisocial behaviour, the horror of Universal Credit and spiralling food currently chairing – is looking into the decarbonisation of the UK economy.

There’s an enormous potential for job creation and growth, while building a better world for future generations.

We’ve all got to do our bit. bank use. Yet all of these crucial issues would be drowned out in a Brexit General Election.

This is why people from across the political divide, up and down the country, want to see a final binding public vote we go into a General Election.

It is now the only way as a country we can move forward together.
