A BUNCH OF ARROGANT WHINGERS Van Basten’s damning verdict

-

“If I was them, I would travel around with a lot less acting.

“Man United are a really big club – but I am only talking about lots and lots of money. They just look down on games in the Europa League and it is very regrettable.

“If I was at AZ Alkmaar, their opponent, I would have been very annoyed. And I would have been incredibly motivated to show just how annoyed I was.”

Solskjaer has opted to use his youngsters in Europe in a bid to push for a top-four Premier League place.

Brandon Williams, Angel Gomes and Mason Greenwood all featured in an under-strength team on the treacherous plastic pitch in Den Haag.

But United’s frail squad has already been exposed after a summer in which Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Chris Smalling, Ander Herrera, Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian were all allowed to leave.

Van Basten was a two-time Champions League winner with AC Milan and scored a sensational volley when Holland emerged victorious at the Euro 88 Championships.

He is now working as a technical director for FIFA after a coaching career that peaked when he led his country to the 2006 World Cup.

He felt Solskjaer should have concentrated more on winning the game against Alkmaar rather than

giving his players the perfect excuse to underperform by moaning about the pitch.

Van Basten added: “These United players are very well-paid professionals.

“So are they saying they should not be playing on an artificial pitch? “Please, get lost.

“Stop talking about these spoilt boys. These are players who are paid an awful lot of money, who are supposed to be so professional.

“They shouldn’t be moaning about an artificial pitch pitch. If you allow them to moan, you are just creating a load of whingers.”

Former Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar was in the Alkmaar team that blunted the United attack.

He agreed with Van Basten’s assessment that Solskjaer’s team has fallen from grace.

Vlaar said: “Put it this way, I have certainly played against much better Manchester United sides in the past than this one.”
