RAPE victims wait SIX MONTHS longer for justice than they did a decade ago.

In 2009 it took an average of 321 days from charges being brought to the completion of a trial. That time has risen to 495 days, new figures show.

And the proportion of rapes prosecuted has fallen to just 1.4 per cent. Four in 10 victims FLAMES tore across the streets of Barcelona as police and protesters clashed after a week of strikes and marches.

Half a million people were protesting at the heavy sentences handed down to Catalan politicians who tried to push for independence from Spain in 2017. More abandon cases because of police demands to see mobile phones and medical records. One in seven do not go ahead because of “evidential difficulties”.

Katie Russell of Rape Crisis said: “This unacceptable situation has gone beyond urgent. The than 150 arrests were made after peaceful demos turned nasty, with chants of “the streets will always be ours”.

An angry mob set up barricades and threw rocks and fireworks at police who responded with rubber bullets and teargas. Around 200 officers were said to be injured. criminal justice ce system is failing victims ctims of sexual violence nce in a way that would uld not be tolerated d with any other type ype of serious crime.” e.”

Labour’s Yvette Cooper, chair of the Home Affairs Select Committee, said: “The scale of cuts to policing is undermining justice. These figures are stark evidence of that.”

Solicitor General Michael Ellis said the time it ta takes to get to trial has increased for all crimes due to “greater “gre complexity and the i ncrease in electron electronic material”.

But he admitted burglar burglary cases only take six wee weeks longer than they di did in 2009.
