START this three-mile mill walk at Hardcastle crags, West Yorks, from the information point at Midgehole car park by turning left downhill. 1 Go immediately right, take path to riverside picnic area then go upstream into the woods. 2 Up steps then back down to the river via stepping stones, go on and pass Gibson mill. 3 Leave the mill on the main track, head back toward the car park. After a short distance, at the top of the slope, take path leading off to the left up into the woods.
4 After a while the path goes down through a conifer plantation. It soon joins the main track through the estate.
5 Take waymarked route back up the valley to Slurring Rock. Go past the rocks and drop down on to the old pack-horse route back to the car park. See www.nationaltrust.org.uk.
