Flores has big screen headache

-

ball with his shoulder – turned it into the net to snatch out-of-sorts Tottenham a late equaliser.

But after referee Chris Kavanagh had awarded the goal, giant screens in the stadium relayed ‘No goal’ with the verdict coming from VAR official John Brooks’ bunker at Stockley Park.

Premier League technical partners Hawkeye last night apologised to Tottenham and Watford for the “incorrect graphic” on the giant screen leading to confusion over Spurs’ equaliser.

A spokesman revealed they would be recommending a series of measures to the Premier League and PGMOL referees body to ensure it cannot happen again.

The leveller relieved the pressure on Mauricio Pochettino, who admitted: “I can understand Quique and the Watford players feeling so bad.”

Flores claimed Alli’s goal should have been chalked off for a foul by Spurs skipper Harry Kane on Christian Kabasele in the build-up, and said: “It’s a foul,

Kane on Kabasele, he pushed with two hands. It’s very weird. I thought VAR was helping football and then, finally, it doesn’t happen.

“When you concede a goal like that, it’s so hard. I’ve no idea how they work.

“I was thinking VAR was something objective, but I’m starting to think it’s very, very secretive.”

Flores was also fuming by Brooks’ failure to award his side a penalty – which looked clear-cut on review – after Gerard Deulofeu was hauled down by Jan Vertonghen.

He said: “I saw it many times and my opinion is clear – it was a penalty.

“But I always love the refs in England. I always thought they were the most amazing refs in the world.”

Pochettino added: “The confusion is nothing to do with us. We can’t manage that situation (the giant screen verdict) – it’s the Premier League.

“Of course it was tough for Quique, but it’s not Tottenham’s responsibility.

“Like everyone, maybe the guy who pressed the button made a mistake.”
