No sudden impact for Parkinson

- By MIKE RIMMER at Adams Park

PHIL Parkinson has called on his Sunderland players to follow the lead of Wycombe after losing to the Chairboys.

Darius Charles scored the only goal, with Sunderland’s Aiden Mcgeady seeing a late effort saved.

Parkinson said: “We knew Wycombe would be confident.

“Th e y ’re where they are i n the league for a reason. It’s up to us to try and get to where they are and where we want to be in this league.

“It’s a disappointing performance.

“But we know it’s going to take a while for the players to adapt to how I want them to play and it’s my first game in charge and I’m sure things will get better. I obviously wanted

to start with a win but you can’t always get what you want in this game. I’m sure we’ ll bounce back.

“Every day wi t h the players is vital and we’ll work to put this game behind us quickly and move on.”

Gareth Ainsworth said: “We deserved the win. WYCOMBE SUNDERLAND 5 ........ Bolton led through Thibaud Verlinden’s effort, before Wilbraham’s 60th-minute introduction helped Rochdale respond with goals from Callum Camps, Oliver Rathbone and Fabio Tavares.

Rochdale boss Barry-murphy (below): “It was a difficult decision not to start with Aaron. His impact was amazing.

“I am not taking away credit from him because he will go mad. But I thought it was a team effort. The players have been amazing.”

Bolton assistant boss Dave

Flitcroft was disappointed to come away with nothing, he said: “For 70 minutes it was a fair, equal match.” Sunderland had one real chance. The magnitude of this win and performance is phenomenal.

“There was a lot of hype around the game. But I told the boys: It’s no different to any other. Do what you do. The spirit on and off the pitch was amazing.

“We’re playing some really good football and deserve to be where we are in the table. We don’t get carried away.

“I can’t praise the players enough. There was a lot of talk in the build-up and we’ve handled it perfectly to get the win.”

KARL ROBINSON wanted more from his players after they kept their unbeaten run going at Rotherham.

Oxford made it seven games without loss thanks to goals from Tariqe Fosu and Matty Taylor, with Michael Ihiekwe replying for Rotherham. Robinson said: “I thought we were excellent and in fairness it could have been more.

“We could have put the game to bed well and truly. It means nothing. But it’s just another three points.”

Home boss Paul Warne said: “I honestly thought in the second half we would go out and win,but they kept their attacks going better than we did.”
