De Bruyne still feels the hunger

- By Simon Mullock

KEVIN DE BRUYNE has warned Liverpool that Manchester City will not give up on the title – regardless of what happens at Anfield today.

The City midfielder insists the champions believe they can land a third successive Premier League crown despite falling six points behind last season’s runners-up.

De Bruyne refuses to accept the clash with Jurgen Klopp’s side will decide the race’s outcome.

He said: “It’s first against second and for the last few years we have been duelling with them to win the league.

“This year I don’t see it being any different. There are some other teams with us but obviously they are the biggest threat.

Pressure

“If that happens (City lose) then the gap is big, but it’s not seasondefining. There’s no way the season is over. There’s still so many games after with a lot of points.

“Obviously if you have a nine-point gap then they’d be very happy and for us there would be more pressure. But we just have to do what we do.

“We all want to win.” De Bruyne feels that City’s hunger for more success has not yet been sated – despite landing seven of the last eight domestic trophies that were up for grabs.

That includes a Community Shield victory over Liverpool at the start of the season, when City prevailed on penalties.

He added: “Motivation comes from yourself.

“A lot of teams have a problem with it. When you win one year, maybe you do a little bit less because you think, ‘It’s OK, we won last year’.

“But we showed last season that we would do everything to compete to be at the level to win the league back-to-back in a way that hasn’t happened for a long time.

“It’s hard but the team is still motivated to keep on winning.”
