EX-PREMIER League star Dominic Matteo was last night recovering in hospital after surgery on a brain tumour.

Defender Matteo, 45, who starred for Liverpool and Leeds United, is out of intensive care after the emergency operation on Monday.

Yesterday the ace’s former clubs and teammates sent best wishes to the star, who has wife Jessica, a dancer, and son Luca.

Robbie Fowler, who played with Matteo at the Reds and Whites, called him “one of life’s good guys”, adding: “Wishing him a speedy recovery.”

Difficult

TV pundit Rio Ferdinand, who starred alongside Matteo in the Leeds team which reached the semi- finals of the Euro Champions League in 2001, tweeted: “Thinking of you and the family.”

Matteo was taken to Leeds General Infirmary after falling ill. He played 127 games for Liverpool in a seven-year stint which ended in 2000.

The club said: “The thoughts of everyone here are with Dom, his family and friends and we will be offering our support t o t hem throughout this difficult time.

“We wish Dom a full and speedy recovery. Dom’s family would like to place on record their gratitude to all staff at Leeds General Infirmary and express their thanks for all of the messages of support they have received.”

Dumfries-born Matteo won six caps for the Scotland national team.

He got Uefa coaching qualifications but struggled with gambling and was declared bankrupt four years ago.

Charity

He has been working as a commentator on Liverpool’s in-house TV channel.

In retirement Matteo had been regularly playing at six- a- side charity games with former teammates.

Former Liverpool star Jose Enrique, 33, last year got the allclear following a nine- hour brain tumour op.

And ex- Chelsea and Ireland striker Tony Cascarino revealed he has had a benign brain tumour removed.

HOT felon Jeremy Meeks has said he and Topshop heiress Chloe Green are still together despite her being regularly seen without her engagement ring.

Chloe, 28, fuelled split rumours after being photographed cuddling Monte Carlo polo captain Rommy Gianni in August.

But Meeks, 35, said they were “definitely together” and that he loved spending time on Sir Phillip Green’s £100million super-yacht.

He said the couple, who have a son, Jayden, one, split their time between Monaco and Los Angeles but did not know where they would finally settle.

Meeks, who has a son from a previous relationship, also revealed that a typical day on the Green’s yacht saw him “wake up, eat breakfast, talk with everyone about how the night was, what the plan for the day is. Might go into town.”
