- By John Kelly

PSYCHIC medium Derek Acorah has died at the age of 69 just a year after saying he was looking forward to passing into the spirit world. called Sam. But he left the show in 2005 after being tricked by crew members about an alleged dead South African warden at Bodmin Jail in Cornwall called Kreed Kafer.

When he failed to realise the name was an anagram of Derek Faker and became possessed by the imaginary gaoler’s “spirit”, he blamed “Sam”.

In 2006, Fielding said: “We tell people everything is real, then it turns out he was a fake, so he had to go.”

She and husband Karl Beattie, who worked on the show, yesterday said: “Our condolences are with Derek’s family at this time. Yvette and Karl.”

Wife Gwen revealed he was being “hounded” by members of the public over his psychic business.

She said: “I hope you have the decency to hang your heads in shame. “I won’t forget nor will I forgive what you have done!”

His series Derek Acorah’s Ghost Towns ran for three series in 2005 and 2006. In 2009 his attempt to contact the King of Pop in Derek Acorah’s Michael Jackson: The Live Seance was panned.

And he was forced to apologise to the Mccanns after he was reported as saying their lost daughter Madeleine was dead and had joined the “spirit world”. He later claimed he was misquoted.

Acorah, who came fourth in Celebrity Big Brother in 2017, was born in Bootle, Merseyside, and got on the books of Liverpool FC but never played a game.
