GOLDEN GLOBES SPECIAL TRICKY Nominations RICKY Stars on run from Gervais
HOLLYWOOD A-listers have fled their front row seats at tonight’s Golden Globes – to escape from acid-tongued host Ricky Gervais.
The cheeky comedian has vowed to go “hell for leather” on Tinseltown’s elite in his fifth and final stint as presenter.
And an insider revealed “at least four household names” have now begged to be moved out of the firing line.
The 58-year-old funnyman has upset a raft of stars at previous ceremonies – including Ben Affleck, Ashton Kutcher, Elton John and Charlie Sheen.
A senior source at the event at LA’S Beverly Hilton Hotel said: “Normally the big stars clamour for the best seats.
Switched
“But with Ricky as MC at least four household names have switched from front row seats to much less prominent spots.
“Although he writes his lines in advance, anyone in his line of vision might still fall victim to a withering put-down.”
Gervais has warned he has no plans to pull punches in his parting shot at the awards. He said: “I don’t care about the backlash. I don’t care about anyone in the room. I’m not beholden to any of them.
“I only care about doing a good job. It’s nice to be in that frame of mind because I can go hell for leather.”
In a US interview prior to tonight’s show, Gervais, from
Reading, added: “I enjoy it because I can’t use my material anywhere else. It’s about that night, that time, that day, those presenters. So it’s lovely and bespoke. I like that.
“What an opportunity with millions watching round the world. I’m flattered they asked me back after the awful things I’ve said.”
Targets this year could include former golden couple Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston – both nominees in different categories, or even the all-vegan banquet.
British stars hoping for wins include Christian Bale, Emma Thompson, Taron Egerton, Daniel Craig, Jonathan Pryce and Roman Griffin Davis, all up for best actor or actress awards.
Helena Bonham Carter, Helen Mirren,
Sacha Baron Cohen,
Olivia Colman, Jodie Comer and Phoebe Waller-bridge are all nominees in TV categories, as are Uk-based shows
The Crown, Fleabag and
Killing Eve.
