JIM: TIME FOR US TO TAKE OFF

- By Dave Armitage

RAUL JIMENEZ says Wolves now have to start believing that they can touch the sky.

The Mexican striker hopes they can put one over Tottenham today to turbo-boost their bid for the Champions League places.

Jimenez says Wolves shouldn’t be shy about just why they are one of the teams that people are talking about.

They reached the last 16 of the Europa League by seeing off Espanyol last week and in the league only a point separates them from sixth-placed Spurs.

There’s an almighty scrap about to kick off and the £30million hitman firmly believes that Nuno Espirito Santo’s men deserve to be right in the thick of it.

Jimenez said: “Yes, we have to think of winning the Europa League. We have to be thinking we can touch the sky.

“We have to think like that. It’s possible. If we do it, it’s going to be amazing. If we don’t, I’m still very proud of this team.

“Tottenham is a very important game. We are fighting for the Champions League or Europa League positions, and we know we have to do our best and keep doing that and win the game.

“They are close to us. We need to be intelligent to have a good performance. They beat us at home this season and last season, but we beat them in their stadium last time we were there.

“It’s important for us to win this game to keep going up the table, “added the 28-year-old, who scored in both games against Spurs last campaign.

Jimenez’s exploits in the Black Country aren’t going unnoticed back home in Mexico – he has 3.3m Twitter followers, seven times the Wolves official site.

And he believes clinching a place among Europe’s finest in the Champions League isn’t the distant dream it once was.

Jimenez added: “It’s a very big step for the club because 18 months ago we were in the Championship and now we’re fighting to be in the Champions League.

“We know that we have to be proud of ourselves because we are fighting for that, and it is achievable.”
