Fergie just can’t Lego of United’s glory days
SIR ALEX FERGUSON has joined the craze that’s swept through Manchester United during lockdown – by building a Lego replica of Old Trafford.
Fergie, 78, ordered one of the spectacular 4,000-piece sets after boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and United legend Bryan Robson agreed to have a ‘build-off’ for the club’s social media.
Solskjaer won the contest – which is a good sign as the Norwegian rebuilds the Reds into the kind of force they were when Ferguson retired seven years ago.
The models retail for £249.99.
A United insider said: “Ole, Robbo and their families had a lot of fun building the model – and the finished article looks brilliant. Now Sir Alex has ordered one and he’ll have hours of fun building a stadium that was originally designed by a fellow Scot.”
Architect Archibald Leitch – who, like Ferguson
(below) was Glasgow-born – designed Old Trafford, which was opened in 1910.
Leitch also designed famous grounds such as White Hart Lane, Stamford Bridge, Highbury, Goodison Park, Hillsborough and Anfield.
The incredible 1:600 scale model is being marketed as a “toy for adults” by its manufacturers.
And several United players are also understood to have made purchases.
The model includes the 26,000-seat stand that is named after the club’s most successful manager himself – and a copy of the statue of Ferguson that stands outside its main entrance.
When built, the structure stands 18.5cms high, 47cms long and 39cms wide.
Miniature versions of the famous statues of Sir Matt Busby and playing legends Sir Bobby Charlton, George Best and Denis Law are also included.
MANCHESTER UNITED are hoping Argentine giants Boca Juniors and Estudiantes will start a £12million bidding war for Marcos Rojo.
The 30-year-old defender is not wanted at Old
Trafford after being allowed to return to hometown club Estudiantes on loan in January. But now Boca have entered the race to sign him permanently.
