You’ve done us so proud on Nathaniel

-

PEOPLE readers are a special bunch. Whenever you see an injustice, you step up.

Whenever there’s a fight to be had, you’re there to campaign with us. And whenever you see someone in trouble, you go above and beyond to help.

This time, it’s Nathaniel, who has been through an almost unimaginable ordeal.

The nine-year-old came to the UK with his family from Nigeria almost a year ago. Diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia, the cost of treating him was looking like £825,000.

That’s where you stepped in. After we revealed Nathaniel’s plight, you dug deep and gave £87,000 towards his chemo.

His situation improved – and then Great Ormond Street medics kindly waived fees.

Hope

But that still left more than £200,000 needed to help him. And you did it – you did it in ten days.

After 10 months of treatment, Nathaniel was last night resting with his family, discharged, cancer-free and with new hope for the future. Thanks to you.

There’s a way to go in his recovery, of course. But thanks to his fighting spirit, and the care and skill of those medics, and to your generosity, he has a chance.

Whatever you’re doing this Sunday morning, you should do it with a spring in your step.

You’re part of a team that has given Nathaniel and his family hope when hope was lost.

And, thanks to your kindness, this extraordinary little boy who loves Manchester United and superheroes is waking up this morning with, as his dad says, another shot at life.
