Albian lifts his Hoops

- Scottish Round-up

CELTIC responded to their Old Firm defeat by beating Ross County 3-0 in the Scottish Premiership.

Ange Postecoglou’s men finally ended County’s resistance when debutant Cameron Carter-vickers’ long-range strike deflected in after 64 minutes.

Albian Ajeti then struck twice late on to lift the Hoops up to fifth and boss Postecoglou, whose side lost to rivals Rangers last time around, said: “It was one we had to persevere in. We needed a goal to open to them up. When you don’t get it, it gives them confidence and they defended well.”

Champions Rangers lead the way after coming from behind to beat St Johnstone 2-1.

The Gers trailed to Michael O’halloran’s goal before a Kemar Roofe penalty and James Tavernier’s fine late strike capped the turnaround.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard said: “That’s what champions do, they find ways to win and they find answers. We did it against Celtic and we did here.

“What gets you there in the end is finding a way when you’re asked questions.”

Second-placed Hibs face Hearts, currently lying third, in the Edinburgh derby today.

JESSE LINGARD needs some help. What does he want to do? Used sparingly by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he still warrants a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad – probably because he turned it on for West Ham. He’s rejected a new deal at Old Trafford this week. At 28, it is unlikely he will be the Norwegian’s first pick. He has never convinced, Lingard. He really should have taken up the option to going to West Ham. It now looks like he is going to be left in limbo, which is where he has spent the majority of his career – and it’s a shame.
