IT’S VARD TO COMPREHEND

Jamie hits own goal... and two for Foxes

- By DAVE ARMITAGE at the King Power Stadium

SEAN DYCHE says he is not bothered if fans think his side are timewasters after seeing Jamie Vardy snatch two points from his grasp.

Master-blaster Vardy had quite a day – giving Burnley the lead with an own goal then scoring a double himself to make sure Dyche’s men didn’t take all three points home.

The 34-year-old (below) rubbed it in by pointing directly at the visiting fans, then showing them the name on his shirt after they had been giving him the bird.

But it was Leicester fans who were the most agitated, booing what they felt was excessive dallying, particularly by goalkeeper Nick Pope, with Dyche retorting: “I’m not really bothered. Everyone pays their money to go and watch and they can have their opinion. I don’t care.”

Maxwel Cornet sparked it all. The £12.8million Ivory Coast star restored the visitors’ lead with a cracker of a volley five minutes before half-time and then had players at each other’s throats minutes later, limping off the pitch and then back on it before falling to the ground

Leicester skipper Kasper

Schmeichel went to the halfway line to remonstrate with some of Burnley’s players who were huddled around Cornet as he lay on the ground.

It was Cornet’s last act of the game and when he eventually got to his feet he limped around three sides of the ground to torrents of abuse.

Dyche said: “The crowd have given him a bit of stick but he’s new to this and, bless him, he was injured just in case any of the Leicester fans thought differently! I feel frustrated because I thought we deserved the points. That was a good performance overall.”

It was a fiery game – Vardy had raced to the Burnley end after cancelling out his 12thminute own goal with a super finish in the 38th minute.

Matt Lowton had almost single-handedly made sure Dyche’s men kept their noses in front with a series of superb first-half interventions.

But Vardy wasn’t to be denied and cashed in superbly on a Youri Tielemans through ball with an angled shot across goal into the bottom corner.

The Foxes were level for no more than a couple of minutes,

Cornet pouncing at the far post to smash home.

Vardy seemed determined to have the final word – and he did – levelling with five minutes left and letting the visiting fans know how much he enjoyed it.

He rounded Pope and was still left with plenty to do but instinctively stroked the ball home.

Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers said: “He’s just a top, top striker. Pope has come out but it was a superb finish.”

Rodgers himself was on the receiving end of boos from

Leicester fans when he replaced Ademola Lookman with James Maddison late on, but he smiled: “I will take that.

“I’ve been here two-and-a-half years and that’s the first time. James is a player of real talent to bring on and try and unlock their defence. I’d never judge fans on airing their feelings.”

Burnley thought they had snatched it in the fourth and last minute of stoppage time when Chris Wood nodded the ball in off the post only to see VAR rule it out for offside.

Jamie is just a top, top striker. Their goalkeeper Nick Pope has come out at him, but it was a superb finish.
