SECRETS AND LIES

Nothing is as it seems in this gripping new ITV thriller about a missing child – or is it?

-

This thrilling new four-part series begins with an idyllic scene of two sisters enjoying a barbecue with their families. But it quickly turns into one of those dramas where nothing is quite what it seems, when a crime takes place that makes you question the motive of every single character.

Siblings Theresa and Helen’s lives are thrown into turmoil when their children go to the park at the same time as a child from the neighbourhood goes missing. Theresa (played by Line Of Duty and Motherland actress Anna Maxwell Martin) fears her 10-year-old son Ben may be involved in some way.

Her relationship with her sensible headteacher sister Helen (Wild Bill star Rachael Stirling) and partner Fraser (Rhashan Stone) becomes increasingly fraught, as long-buried secrets come to the surface.

“Something I really want to stress is that on paper this looks like another drama about a kiddie going missing, but it’s not that,” Anna says. “This series is really not about the missing child. That’s just a catalyst to make people turn in on themselves. The centrifugal force of the drama is this hideously co-dependent relationship between Theresa and Helen. It’s very complex and you just can’t really work out what’s going on between them.”

Discussing what’s in store over the coming weeks, Rachael adds, “The show is about these two sisters coming together to protect their children and, in the end, it’s about the fact that there’s no length to which a mother won’t go to defend her child.”

We’re already hooked.
