Never mind the empty shelves.. Boris is enjoying a Marbellous hol in Spain
BORIS Johnson was enjoying a sunshine break in Marbella yesterday as Brits struggled with food shortages, soaring energy bills and a benefits cut.
The Prime Minister flew to the Costa del Sol resort, known as Marbs, on Friday.
It is understood he will be there until Thursday despite the unfolding crisis back home.
He is soaking up the sun in the hotspot loved by stars of The Only Way Is Essex.
Mr Johnson, 57, is understood to be staying in a luxury villa near the millionaires’ playground village of Benahavis.
It is not known if his pregnant wife Carrie, 33, and 18-monthold son Wilfred are with him.
The last time Carrie and Boris had a seaside jaunt was at the G7 political summit in Carbis Bay, Cornwall, in June when they strolled hand-in-hand on the beach.
Marbella temperatures are set to hit a balmy 24 degrees today, compared with a chillier 18 degrees at Downing Street.
And Brits at home face a bitter wind from empty supermarket shelves, soaring gas and electricity bills and the £20 Universal Credit cut.
In August it was reported the Prime Minister was planning a British holiday.
A senior government source claimed: “The PM’S going to staycation this year.”
But last night a Spanish police source said: “Officially we can’t confirm, but unofficially he’s in a big luxury villa on the border between Marbella and Benahavis.”
The source added: “We have been made aware the British Prime Minister is staying and so we are all being extra vigilant.
Pain
“We know how important he is globally and what a potential target he is so there are extra patrols taking place on the Marbella/benahavís borders over the next few days.” Spain had been on the Government’s amber travel list, before green and amber countries were merged into one list on Monday.
Mr Johnson wasted no time jetting off to Spain after the Tory conference, leaving Brits back home to cope with the pain.
Millions of shoppers were unable to buy essential foods yesterday as Britain’s supply chain crisis continued due to a shortage of HGV drivers and food industry workers.
Supermarket aisles were stripped bare of meat, fruit and frozen goods as customers panicbought items, including toilet roll and bottled water, ahead of the festive season.
Rocketing gas and electricity prices mean up to 1.5 million households could fall into fuel poverty – meaning they spend more than 10% of their income on energy bills – and be forced to shiver this winter.
The Johnsons and baby Wilfred last holidayed on the west coast of Scotland in the summer of 2020, renting a house on the Applecross peninsula for a week.
And in December 2019, Mr Johnson and his then fiancé took a winter break on the Caribbean private isle Mustique.
The Prime Minister was later criticised by the MPS’ standards watchdog for failing to properly explain how the £15,000 holiday was funded.
Leading Tories are fond of the Marbella area.
Zac Goldsmith has a sprawling property there. And Tory peer and chum of the PM Lord Stanley Fink is said to have a place on a private estate.
