Block on Toon by Big Six is a crying shame

-

IT’S almost as if the Premier League never believed Newcastle were going to be taken over by the richest oil-generating country on the planet.

Little more than two weeks after the news broke, there are all manner of obstacles being put in the way of the new Saudi Arabian ownership.

There wasn’t a whisper of anything as the takeover stalled and power broker Amanda Staveley (above) looked as if she would be frustrated.

You would have thought these clever captains of the football industry would have used that 18-month hiatus – while the Premier League was sorting out a squabble over piracy issues – to line up their objections.

Now you can almost hear wails of ‘it’s not fair,’ rebounding off every boardroom wall as owners blub at the unfairness of it all. The hypocrisy is off the scale.

English football is organised for big clubs to succeed. The

Premier League was set up by those clubs.

And they have used their financial power for the past 30 years to ensure that they pay the biggest money to the best players.

Manchester United have spent over £1billion trying to win the title.

Manchester City did likewise to capture that pot after their takeover in 2008. Roman Abramovich (above) announced his arrival at Chelsea by dusting off the cheque book.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs have wealthy backers, too. These clubs created the modern game and now someone has come along who may be better at it than them. Ah, diddums.

So, grow up. Stop whining. Deal with it – which is exactly what the rest of English football had to do when the cards became stacked against them.
