WHAT ARE THE AIMS OF COP26?
Boris Johnson will ask every country to commit to achieving net-zero emissions of greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide by 2050. Attendees are expected to set out their plans for limiting their individual contributions to climate change, following the 2015 Paris Agreement in which countries agreed to act to tackle global warming. The agreement, adopted at COP21, aims to keep temperature rises to “well below” the level of 2C above pre-industrial levels and is striving to limit it to 1.5C.
