WHY IS SO IT IMPORTANT?

COP26 has been described by John Kerry, President Joe Biden’s climate envoy, as the world’s “last best chance” to avert disaster. In 2018, a report by the International Panel on Climate said a 2C increase would be devastating for the world, and a third of the global population would be exposed to severe heat. Rising sea levels of up to 87cm would cause flooding in many coastal areas. A 1.5C increase would have a “less extreme” though still serious impact – but with lower risks of food and water shortages, lower sea levels and lower risk to human health.
