Ryan calls for focus in playoff bid

- Keith Webster

RYAN TANNEHILL knocked off the pre-season Super Bowl favourites last week.

Now he wants the Tennessee Titans to focus on the road ahead as they reach the halfway point of the campaign.

The Titans’ quarterback was instrumental in beating Patrick Mahomes (below) and the Kansas City Chiefs seven days ago, a win that lifted Tennessee’s record to 5-2.

Tonight, they travel to AFC South Division rival, Indianapolis, knowing that a win would give them a threegame lead in the division and put them on course for the playoffs.

But Tannehill has warned his team-mates to keep their minds on the job in hand, not the reward at the end of the year.

Tannehill said: “We’re seven games into a long season so we need to keep improving, keep getting better, week in, week out. We need to be playing our best football late into the year.

“It’s a good start but it doesn’t matter what you’ve done, it’s all about what you are going to do next.”

Tannehill added: “We have to be able to build on the momentum, but at the same time stay hungry, stay fighting for ways to improve every day in practice and then play well on Sunday.”

At 33, and in his 10th year as a pro, Tannehill knows that good chances don’t come around often in the NFL.

He spent a frustrating seven years in Miami, including missing 2017 with a knee injury. He is more than aware of the significance of tonight’s game.

He said: “This is a team we respect. This is a big game for us, no doubt.”
